Would any of you recommend getting a Prius with 130k+ miles on it? (self.askcarguys) submitted 29 days ago by belayble I've been in the market for a new car and have been thinking about getting a Prius mainly due to the gas mileage. However because of my budget (5k max) the cars I've been looking at have at least 100k miles on it.

My budget is 14,000 - 18,000. I'd prefer a Prius over a regular Toyota, because of the awesome fuel economy, but all the ones in my price range.

Do a sanity check on cars.com for your exact model/trim/mileage and colors. Have a Toyota dealer do a pre-purchase inspection. Depending on what you find, make the offer. A well maintained Toyota should easily take you to 300K miles without major repairs. Plus, the car pays you back in gas savings compared to a comparable all gas car. Like to camp?

Thinking of getting the new Prius, what are the pros and cons? What are your experience with it and would you recommend it? I'm mostly thinking about it because of the plug in option, I like the fact that I can get 60 miles of all electric but I can still have the ice engine for longer trips.

The Prius is a great car with exceptional reliability, and good gas mileage. Toyota has however, told it's design team to act on the more conservative side. So it's a car. There are more luxurious, more powerful, cars that get better fuel economy, and surprisingly there are more reliable cars.
